About this Blog
This is a blog about all the behind-the-scenes work that goes into making an exhibition. It is written by staff at the Sedgwick Museum of Earth Sciences, Cambridge and chronicles the development of the ‘Darwin the Geologist’ exhibition due to open in summer 2009.
The exhibition seeks to introduce our visitors to a different Charles Darwin, not the old, infirm naturalist of his later years that has been fixed in the public imagination, but a young, dynamic geologist embarking on a journey around the world. The Museum holds the collection of rocks that Darwin brought back from his voyage on board the HMS Beagle and in displaying these along with letters, pictures and scientific instruments the exhibition will show how Darwin’s enthusiasm for geology persisted throughout his life and how scientists today are still using his collections and discoveries to learn about the Earth.
In these regular updates the Museum invites you to peak behind its closed doors and barriers and get to know the people, the discoveries, the objects, and the work that are coming together to make this exhibition.
